Our Vision
From saltwater to freshwater, Red Dirt is poetry’s beating heart; connecting voices across regions and generations.
We see words as ripples that grow into waves, strengthening community, culture and creativity across Australia’s remote and regional landscapes.
Our Culture
Our culture is about people - artists, audiences, kids, elders - all finding their voice. It’s about respect, creativity, and the belief that community thrives when everyone feels safe, seen and supported.
Here’s what we stand for:
- Fostering and promoting regional poetic voices: We serve and honour poets and spoken word artists from regional and remote areas of Australia and celebrate their richness and diversity.
- First Nations First: We honour the deep creative traditions of the lands on which we live and work. First Nations artists lead the way, and we listen, learn and follow with respect.
- Grassroots Organisation: We are community-led, hands-on, and grounded in strong connections many years in the making. We started small, and we plan to stay true to our roots.
- Supported Risk-Taking: We back artists to take creative risks, to experiment, collaborate and grow. It’s about building confidence, nurturing talent and elevating new voices.
- Safe & Accessible for Everyone: We work hard to remove barriers so everyone can take part and feel safe. Whether it’s affordability, disability, culture, kids, language or confidence - we find a way.
- Purposeful Partnerships: We collaborate with people and organisations who share our values. Every partnership serves our purpose to strengthen artists, communities and the future of poetry.
